As the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Greece continued its time-honored legacy at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The remarkable athletes representing Greece embodied the true notion of the Hellenic spirit, representing and honoring their motherland. Their hard work, persistence, and drive are truly inspirational, and their impressive talents are rightfully honored.

Greek athletes won ten medals at the Olympic Games this summer, bringing home one gold, one silver, and eight bronze medals. Their remarkable athleticism serves as inspiration worldwide, setting the bar high for future generations. Miltos Tentoglou, the long-jump champion who secured the gold medal, left fans in awe with his impressive performance. Another outstanding performance credited Apostolos Christou with the silver medal in swimming, the first in Greece’s history since 1896, marking a historic and memorable win. Eight incredible athletes further demonstrated their athletic abilities, securing six bronze medals for the country. These athletes Dauren Kurugliev; Theodoros Tselidis; Antonis Papakonstantinou and Petros Gaidatzis; Zoe Fitsiou and Milena Kontou; Lefteris Petrounias; and Emmanouil Karalis.

Greece continued to excel at the 17th Paralympic Games. Thirteen medals were secured throughout the multi-sport competition, including three gold, three silver, and seven bronze. The remarkable performance of each athlete illustrates their dedication to their respective sport, embodying the Greek legacy and carrying on this memorable tradition. Greek sprinter Athanasios Ghavelas made history with his performance in the 100-meter sprint, adding another gold to his name. Continuing his legacy from the Tokyo Olympic Games, Ghavelas became the first Greek athlete to secure a gold medal in two consecutive Olympic games.

The Olympic games are a continuous reminder of the rich history and legacy of Greece, passed down from century to century. This ceremonial tradition unifies the global community and cultivates an unparalleled sense of harmony between nations worldwide, translating and exemplifying the Greek value of “filotimo” globally.
