Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis sent the message that Greece is a strong geopolitical hub, which possesses robust diplomatic capital and whose voice has weight in the international arena, because it is consistent, sincere, relies on International Law, and follows a policy of principles, in an interview with ANT1 TV on Tuesday.

Moreover, Gerapetritis underlined the country’s determination to continue a multi-faceted foreign policy with seriousness and with strong and self-sufficient armed forces.

When asked about the simultaneous signal given by Washington to Athens with the F-35s and to Ankara with the F-16s, Gerapetritis responded that Greece will never adopt a “logic of heteronomy”.

“We neither have a say, nor could we determine how the US delivers armaments programmes. What we can do is safeguard our own national interests when such armament procurements are involved. We cannot dictate US armaments. However, what we can determine is that these armament programmes delivered to allied countries will not be used against Greek interests. This is a self-evident observation,” he added.

At the same time, he made it clear that with the present government, there is no possibility that national interests will not be defended in the proper manner.
