Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias met with his counterpart of the Cyprus Republic Michalis Giorgallas in Thessaloniki on Thursday.

Their meeting was held in the presence of Deputy Minister for Macedonia & Thrace Stathis Konstantinidis.

It was “extremely important and interesting that we had the opportunity to review the situation in our broader region,” noted Dendias. With Greece and Cyprus located at the perimeter of the new crisis in the Middle East, he added, “there is a number of very important issues that must be discussed, about which we need to have joint views and a mutual understanding.”

The Cypriot minister is visiting Thessaloniki to attend events marking the nameday of the city’s patron saint Aghios Dimitrios (Oct. 26), the 111th anniversary of Thessaloniki’s liberation from Ottoman rule (Oct. 27), and the anniversary of October 28 (‘Ohi’ Day).

Dendias is also attending some of these events, standing in for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the government.
