A delightful evening filled with camaraderie and anticipation unfolded on Friday night as members of the Pierikos football team, along with the management, staff, and invited guests of Greek-American President Thanasis Papadopoulos, gathered for the club’s Vasilopita cutting ceremony in Katerini, Greece.
Papadopoulos warmly welcomed the team and took the opportunity to convey his message for the remainder of this season, as well as to outline the vision for the club’s future, with him leading the effort.
In his address to the football team, he did not conceal his disappointment with the team’s performance, which has put Pierikos at a disadvantage in the promotion race, and he urged everyone to take responsibility for the team’s current state. He emphasized that the Pierikos community is disheartened by the team’s progress and stressed the need for a turnaround in the upcoming period. He called for the team to give their all in every remaining match to finish the season on a positive note.
Concluding his speech, he assured everyone of his presence in planning the team’s future, promising to ensure financial stability. He announced his upcoming visit to Katerini in April to discuss plans for the new season with his colleagues and the coach.
On behalf of the players, Lefteris Matsoukas expressed gratitude to the president for his contributions to the team and for providing professional conditions in their daily lives. He also took a moment for self-criticism, acknowledging the players’ responsibility for Pierikos’ disappointing performance. He pledged that they would make every effort to end the season on a high note.
The lucky recipients of the evening’s two lucky charms in the club’s Vasilopita were players Alexandros Katsiamitas and Angelos Karatsios, who were symbolically rewarded with dollars from the team’s vice president, Panagiotis Leontaras!
The event was honored by the presence of Deputy Prefect Sophia Mavridou, who addressed the team and expressed the support of the Prefecture for Thanasis Papadopoulos’ efforts to return Pierikos to its rightful place. Also in attendance were former club presidents Lefteris Vasiliadis and Antonis Kyriakos, journalist Periklis Hatzigiannis, president of the Pierikos Boston Friends Association Argyris Kambisios, Atromitos president Yiotis Satsidis, president of the Pierikos Fan Club Gate 5 George Yamalis, as well as numerous representatives of the media.
