Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis attended the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York, where they engaged in significant discussions with global leaders, investors, and representatives of the Greek-American community and American Jewish organizations.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, Mitsotakis met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and had a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The Prime Minister addressed the High-Level Meeting on Sea Level Rise, and was honored with the Global Citizen Award by the Atlantic Council, along with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, and leading South Korean film producer Miky Lee. In his address to the UN General Assembly, the Greek Prime Minister touched upon various issues, including efforts for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, the war in Ukraine, Greek-Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue, Artificial Intelligence, the climate crisis and Greece’s upcoming tenure on the UN Security Council.

Foreign Minister Gerapetritis participated in multiple trilateral and bilateral meetings, underscoring Greece’s active role in international diplomacy, and its upcoming tenure on the Security Council for the 2025-2026 term. Among his counterparts were the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus, Egypt, Kosovo, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Jordan Lebanon, China, India, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League. The Minister addressed the high-level open session of the Security Council on “Maintenance of the international peace and security” and took part in the trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt. Additionally, Minister Gerapetritis, attended the ministerial meeting addressing the situation in Gaza and the broader peace efforts in the Middle East, as well as in G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting on the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
