The general government debt totaled 341.086 billion euros, or 206.3% of GDP, at the end of 2020, while the general government deficit was 16.674 billion euros or 10.1% of GDP in the same period, Hellenic Statistical Authority said in a report sent to Eurostat on Thursday in the framework of the excessive deficit procedures.
The latest figures showed that Greek public debt was 0.7 points higher than the initial report, while the fiscal deficit was up 0.4 points. The statistics service also revised the previous year’s data, with the public debt at 179.5% of GDP in 2017, 186.4% in 2018 and 180.7% in 2019. The fiscal balance showed a surplus of 0.6% of GDP in 2017, a surplus of 0.9% in 2018 and a surplus of 1.1% of GDP in 2019. The country’s GDP totaled 165.326 billion euros in 2020, from 183.250 billion in 2019. General government revenue was 82.197 billion euros in 2020 (49.72% of GDP) from 89.823 billion (49.02%) in 2019. General government spending was 98.871 billion euros (59.8% of GDP) in 2020 from 87.758 billion (47.89% of GDP) in 2019.
