The Hellenic Initiative Annual Gala “Moving Forward Together” was held in New York on Saturday, December 4 gathering more than 2 million dollars.

The funds raised will be used to alleviate the most vulnerable groups affected by the pandemic in Greece and to contribute to programs that support the sustainable and long-term economic recovery of our country.

“Greeks have always helped those in need. This happened with migrants who left their homeland at the beginning of the previous century and continues today. The spirit of philotimo remains alive. We are proud to be the catalyst that helps the diaspora continue this tradition,” the president of the Hellenic Intiative Annual Gala, George Stamas, said.
In a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Peter J. Poulos, executive director, said that almost all the people working for the organization are Greek-Americans who have chosen to live in Greece.

Poulos referred to the growing number of Greek-Americans who choose to return to Greece, to the bet of attracting digital nomads but also to the programs implemented by THI in Greece.

“I would say that Greece looks like the new country of opportunities,” he underlined and added: The city is being transformed and that is wonderful. It has a mayor who builds parks and creates public spaces. Public transportation is also good and the city is very affordable (compared to the US). For the same amount that one can spend on renting an apartment in Washington or New York, one can live like a king in Greece.
