A Cuvier’s beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris) that is stranded at Edem beach in Alimos has been seriously injured in its lower jaw and has multiple superficial injuries on its body, the Environment Ministry said.
Preliminary examinations show the cetacean suffers from serious dehydration, leucopenia and anemia.
The University of Thessaloniki Veterinary School is conducting tissue and other analyses, while the whale is being hydrated and given hydrolytes and medication by its expert staff. It is under observation by the Greek organization, “Arion” Research Center for the Rescue and Care of Cetaceans. Also assisting are the Hellenic Rescue Team of Attica, Lifeguard Hellas, All for Blue and MOm.
