The digital platform “Rebrain Greece” of the Labor and Social Insurance Ministry links overseas talent with highly specialized jobs in Greece, hoping to attract Greeks who have left back to their country, Minister Niki Kerameus told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) in an interview published online on Sunday.

The site address is https://platform.rebraingreece.gr/theseis-ergasias/ and it includes sectors such as banks, consulting companies, and large business groups active in Greece, especially in informatics, industry, construction, green economy, and work.

With this initiative, the ministry hopes to link both domestic highly skilled workers with Greek companies, as well as act as a bridge to Greeks who wish to return to their country. The site provides detailed information on registering in Greece and information relating to labor laws, helpful information to families returning, medical coverage, and information on education here, residence permits, and others. A comprehensive repatriation guide is offered for Greeks abroad as well.

According to General Director of Labor Relations, Health, Insurance and Employment Constantinos Agrapidas, the platform’s success so far is notable, as it has attracted Greek workers living here and abroad. Based on ddata collected up to August 2024, a total of 2,100 people registered (1,900 of individuals, 200 of companies), a total of 450 jobs have been posted, and 1,500 applications of interest have been filed. The first related event, held in London in April 2024 by the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance and 12 large Greek companies, attracted a lot of interest. A total of 620 employees attended, showing their strong interest in returning to the Greek market, while every company conducted over 200 interview with interested professionals. The event will inspire others in other European countries, according to ministry officials.

A support group (help desk), staffed by officers of the General Directorate of Labor Relations, provides information continuously, and also briefs officials in large business groups about signing up and how to attract talent from abroad. The help desk on Rebrain Greece has held over 70 information teleconferences with top officials of large multinationals and Greek companies, while over 20 such teleconferences have been held with Greek workers in Greece who are considering job changes.

Kerameus said that the attraction to returning to Greece is “on one hand the stable and safe labor environment we have formulated in the last five years and which we are continually improving with initiatives such as the expansion of the Digital Work card, including with the assistance of more intensive inspections by the Labor Inspectorate, and on the other hand the raise in wages, according to the prime minister’s announcements.”

The Greek labor market has developed a particular dynamic that is reflected in the drop in unemployment – dropping below 10% for the first time in 15 years, and remaining at that level steadily for the third consecutive month – as well as in the improved balance of hirings and layoffs/pensions.

“The aim of Rebrain Greece is to attract workers, in order for them to return to Greece and help our productivity forces, contributing their unique skills and their excellent technical know-how in further improving the country’s capacities,” Kerameus said.

Also contributing to these efforts is the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA), with “Career Days”, a memorandum signed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that will help approach and brief Greeks abroad about opportunities in Greece, and other activities.
