“With hostilities and violence continuing in the Gaza Strip, we must underline once again that the Greek government condemns violence and terrorism against sovereign states,” government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Friday, during a press briefing.
“We recognise Israel’s right to self-defence, but it is important to prevent a humanitarian crisis,” he stressed and added: “It is equally important to prevent the risk of a greater escalation in the region with the involvement of other countries.”
He underlined that Greece steadfastly adheres to a foreign policy of principles that it follows and from the first moment adopted a clear position of condemning terrorism and supporting Israel. “Our country remains a pillar of stability and security in the region and will continue to play this role as a reliable interlocutor of partners and allies, and as a country that talks with countries in the region such as Egypt, Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia,” Marinakis said.
He added that thanks to the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Greece in Tel Aviv and the Consulate General in Jerusalem, the repatriation of Greeks from Israel and the Palestinian territories was completed. “Greece, thanks to the rapid mobilisation of the authorities, is among the first countries that successfully completed the repatriation of their citizens,” he commented.
