MEP Fredi Beleri noted in a statement on Tuesday that “the decision of the Court of Appeal was expected as the coup methods against me were planned at every step by the Albanian prime minister himself.”
“One thing is certain, however: the parody of justice with an indictment witness who confessed to being paid by the Albanian police to give false testimony, a judge who is banned from entering Greece for document falsification and an appointed rather than elected president of the Court of Appeal does not end here. I have already started the appeal proceedings at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and I am confident that justice will be served there, unlike under the Rama regime,” he added.
Moreover, he stressed that with his conviction Edi Rama achieved his goal of preventing him from taking office as the elected mayor of Himare, allowing him to implement his plans and seize the assets of the Greek community in the region.
“But unfortunately for him and fortunately for the Greek minority in Northern Epirus, my presence in the European Parliament-thanks to Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ determination and the support of the Greek people-guarantees that the struggle for democracy and the rule of law will continue. Those who harbored illusions that Rama would behave as the leader of a country aspiring to join the European family and not as another authoritarian leader were proven wrong,” Beleri pointed out, adding:
“As far as I am concerned, my position is clear. Just as I did not bow over the last 14 months, I will not bow now, in the remaining 3-4 months. The problem from now on will be Edi Rama’s not mine. In the end light always prevails over darkness,” Beleri concluded in his statement.
