Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the health ministry on Wednesday, where he was received by the Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.

After a meeting on upgrading the national health system, held at the ministry, the prime minister stated: “Our government has made the drastic reform and restructuring of the National Health System one of the central political priorities of this four-year term. We know that it is a difficult task, a national health system that coped during the pandemic, but which also inherited many age-old problems, which the time has now come for us to face with courage. And that is exactly what we are doing by implementing a very bold framework of reforms in all aspects of health. Reforms, which I believe citizens will soon begin to see and find out for themselves.”

“Reforms which obviously do not only have to do with infrastructure, much of which is financed by European funds and especially by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). They have to do with adding the necessary personnel, the reorganisation of tasks, the use of technology, with addressing long-term problems and deficiencies that we have in remote areas, in our islands or in mountainous regions. But we have the plan, we have the will to be able to implement these bold reforms and that is exactly what we will do. We have a very good team at the health ministry and now the responsibility is passing on to you, to implement what we have agreed upon,” he stressed.

He made special mention of issues related to public health and preventive examinations, emphasising that “however important it is to improve health services in our hospitals, health does not begin and end at the hospital door. That is why we attach great importance to primary health, to preventive examinations and also to public health with programmes that will allow us to have an overall healthy population.”
