Online supermarket sales grew a spectacular 60% in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the same period in 2020, Convert Group said in a report released on Wednesday. More specifically, the categories which recorded the biggest percentage increase in value during July, August and September were: pet products (108%), bakery (70%), cosmetics (69%), alcohol/beverage (65%), cleaning items (61%), fresh food (58%), frozen food (57%) and baby food (47%).
During the third quarter, the average consumer purchased 36.4 products in each order, spending 76.30 euros. One-third of these products were fresh food. A 41% of sales came from direct visits to supermarkets’ websites, while Monday remained the most popular day for online orders.
