Individuals who tested positive to the coronavirus may return to their daily activities after 5 days of self-isolation, provided they have no symptoms and wear high-protection masks during all of their contacts, the Health Ministry said on Thursday, citing the protocols of the National Public Health Organization (EODY), in response to statements by the main opposition leader on Instagram.

SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, who is fully vaccinated, said that after completing a five-day isolation, “based on EODY, I could return to Parliament today and infect colleagues, since my tests still come out positive. I will not do it, but many others are obliged to return to work, whatever the repercussions.”

In its response, the ministry said, “EODY’s protocols are based on the CDC’s (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) scientific directives, which it follows faithfully. It is absolutely clear, regarding directions for the end of quarantine, that after 5 days of a mild disease and as long as there is no symptom, citizens may return to their daily activities on condition that they always wear a high-protection mask and observe strictly basic hygiene rules.”

It also added that epidemiological data shows that after the fifth day a person without symptoms who wears masks is in no danger of infecting another person. “Obviously, all this does not hold for those who still have symptoms,” it added.
