This is the second week that the COVID-19 cases are dropping and the number of patients on ventilators remains stable, much lower from the number which could put pressure to the Natonal Health System, Health Minister Thanos Plevris said on Monday speaking to ANT1 TV.

The minsiter said that “many people are being treated in hospitals” while on the incrased number of deaths he explained that “any person that is admitted to hospital with a stroke or heart attack and in parallel is found positive with COVID, in case he dies it will be registered as death from COVID, I must clarify this”.

Plevris said that a surge in COVID-19 cases is expected in autumn noting that now there are ‘weapons’.”We have better therapeutic protocols, we have the antivirus medicines and a very good vaccination coverage of the population”.

Referring to the updated vaccines he said there are two stages. “the first is that the companies are close to the vaccine linked with the omicron variant and a bit far from the vaccine that in connected with the variant we have now, the 4 and 5. What we say is because the vaccine is protecting from serious illness, the vulnerable groups should be vaccinated.
