The City of Philadelphia is getting ready for the 2015 Primary Elections on Tuesday, May 19th. One of our own, Rainy Papademetriou (D) is running for Judge in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. On Wednesday, May 13th, friends of Rainy hosted a Rally for Rainy at 1518 Bar and Grill in Philadelphia. The Rally was a huge success with a great number of supporters that attended the event. The atmosphere was filled with great energy and pride for Rainy. Rainy attended Temple University Beasley School of Law and has worked in Philadelphia as a lawyer for over 30 years.
Hellenic News of America (HNA): Rainy, what is your background?
Rainy Papademetriou (RP): I have been a lawyer for over 30 years. My entire career as a lawyer has been helping people achieve equal access to justice in the courtrooms. I have represented people as an assistant district attorney; I have worked for many years at the Women Against Abuse’s legal center, where I represented survivors of domestic violence and their children; and for the last ten years I have worked at an agency called Philadelphia VIP, where we provide free legal help for people that have nowhere else to turn for help.
HNA: Why will your background better help you serve Philadelphia as a Common Pleas Judge?
RP: My many years of helping people with their problems, has opened my eyes to what is important. Before I was a lawyer, I was also a teacher. So, I know a lot about people, their families, and their problems. I believe my experience will help me make good, strong and fair decisions required of a judge.
