ASTORIA, N.Y. — On Tuesday, November 29, Assemblymember Aravella Simotas was honored by Hellenic Professional Women, Inc. at Central Lounge’s Ammos Restaurant in Astoria.
Simotas was recognized for her role as a mentor to young women of Greek descent and her longtime involvement with the organization.“I would not be where I am today without the guidance of mentors who invested in my success and guided me throughout my career,” Simotas said. “It is a privilege to now have the opportunity to help other young women find direction in their professional lives.”Simotas was introduced by her mentee Evangeline Soldatou, who credited the Assemblymember with helping her decide to attend law school.
Simotas also presented a citation to fellow honoree Dimitras Manis, the Global Head of HR for the Professional Division at Thomson Reuters.“Aravella has been a part of Hellenic Professional Women, Inc. since its inception,” said Maria Frantzis, the founder and president of the organization. “We are truly blessed to have her serve on our Mentorship Committee as an advisor and a mentor. Aravella is an inspiration to our members and the students she has guided in pursuing their career goals.”Also in attendance at the event, chaired by Carol Georgiadis, were Koula Sophianou, Consul General of Cyprus, and Evangelos Kyriakopoulos, Consul of Greece.–
