US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis spoke about the positive prospects generated by the strengthening of ties between Greece and the United States, in his address at the 6th Infrastructure & Transport Conference ITC 2023 held Athens on Tuesday (Sep.17-20).
The two countries’ collaboration can boost the development dynamics of Greece’s economy, he noted, amidst current challenges such as the climate crisis, which is putting tremendous pressure on infrastructures. This means specific measures must be taken to ensure that the infrastructures can sustain this burden, while funds must also be spent to assess the resilience of standing infrastructures, Tsunis said.
Every billion dollars spent on infrastructures should benefit both the environment and the communities’ resilience, added Tsunis, while 10,000 jobs should be generated by it to render economies more sustainable.
Greece has made tremendous progress over the last two years, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, said the American ambassador. Moreover, more than 6 million people in Greece now have access to 5G networks, while Athens has become a significant data center in the Balkans, he added.
Development prospects in Greece’s ports, logisics and energy are also highly promising, Tsunis highlighted.
