“The number of surgeries in national health system hospitals has returned to pre-pandemic levels,” government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday during a press briefing.
Marinakis cited a post by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, pointing out that approximately 175,000 surgical operations were performed during the first quarter of 2024, a number that not only marks a return to the previous standards but actually significantly exceeds them, relative to the year 2019.
“The improvement of the provided health services, the restructuring of the national health system and its modernisation is a major priority for the government and we will continue in this direction,” he emphasised.
Marinakis continued with another important issue that concerns all households, namely that of inflation.
“Eurostat’s announcement on inflation in May confirms that the measures implemented by the government to address imported inflation are already starting to gradually pay off. High prices are indeed the biggest problem facing all households and that is why we have introduced a number of market and supply chain measures to mitigate its consequences. Inflation in our country registered a significant drop from 3.2% in April to 2.3% in May and is at the lowest level since September 2021. Greece has the 6th lowest inflation rate in the eurozone,” the government spokesperson noted.
Marinakis also referred to the upcoming European elections, saying that “the number of postal votes that have already been received exceeds 150,000.”
