The opening of the Yessios Museum, The Macedonian Agonas and Edessa, took place in the heart of the city with honor and jubilation, on October 18, 2024, the day of the commemoration of the liberation of Edessa.
The vision of Christos Yessios to create a unique Museum that highlights the bloody and catalytic strife (Agonas) for the reunificaiton of Macedonia to the Greek state, materialized after years of persistent efforts.
Wishing to honor his native city, Christos Yessios donated the imposing building he owned, with the desire to build the Yessios Museum as a contemporary cultural site that commemorates and disseminates the importance of the Makedonikos Agonas. In addition, special mention is made through the exhibits of the Museum to the invisible fighters – residents of Edessa, whose contributions were of decisive importance for the outcome of the Agonas.
We thank all the contributors who were instrumental to the realization of this great project with a lot of care, passion, ethos, and respect for this cause.
We thank all the Authorities and all the participants who honored the opening ceremony with their presence.
We wholeheartedly hope that the Yessios Museum will become a valuable asset of our national identity and a center for cultural and educational activities.
Sincerely,
The Yessios Museum, The Makedonikos Agonas and Edessa
