“International recognition of the historical truth [of the Pontian Genocide] but also dialogue on the basis of international law are the answer to all forms of nationalism and revisionism that bring new wars, new genocides and new ethnic cleansings,” main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said on Thursday, in a social media message marking the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of Pontian Greeks.
“Today we honour the memory of the victims of the Pontian Genocide, which led to the uprooting and death of an important part of Hellenism with a great history. We do not forget that the Pontian refugees that came to Greece made a decisive contribution to the social, cultural and economic revival of the country, in spite of the difficulties and obstacles. We actively support the highlighting of historic memory, the international recognition of historical truth on an academic and diplomatic level,” he said.
