WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus and House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, took part in the American Hellenic Institute’s commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
The event, which took place last week, was conducted virtually via Zoom. Among those also participating were American Hellenic Institute President Nick Larigakis, Cypriot Ambassador to the U.S. Marios Lysiotis, Greek Ambassador to the U.S. Alexandra Papadopoulou and other Members of Congress.
“In 1974, Turkey invaded Cyprus and occupied 37 percent of the island, an occupation that continues to this day with over 40,000 Turkish troops,” said Meng. “Turkey’s presence in Cyprus must come to an end.”
