San Diego, CA — July 10, 2024—The National Philoptochos Convention culminated in a powerful display of community service and intergenerational collaboration as Philoptochos and Young Adult League (YAL) partnered up to spearhead the Diakonia Project. The recipients of this “syndiakonia” (joint-Diakonia) of YAL and Philoptochos are Your Safe Place and San Diego Rescue Mission, two extraordinary programs in San Diego.
On July 4th, the entire Philoptochos and YAL delegate groups assembled 1500 care packages to support survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, abuse, and individuals experiencing homelessness. This hands-on effort underscored Philoptochos’ commitment to charitable action and nurturing connections with the next generation. Members of Philoptochos expressed a deep sense of mentorship and kinship with the YAL participants, who also set their focus on helping those in need.
The partnership between Philoptochos and YAL extends beyond this project, aiming to foster a lasting relationship that bridges one of our church’s longest-established and newest ministries. This collaboration strengthens our community outreach efforts and enriches the spiritual and personal growth of all involved. As we move forward, National Philoptochos eagerly anticipates future collaborations with YAL, recognizing their role in shaping the future of philanthropy within the church and as an expansion to the Army of Agape.
By embracing the past, present, and future, Philoptochos reaffirms its commitment to serving communities and supporting those in need. Through continued collaboration with YAL and other community partners, we strive to expand our impact and uphold our mission of compassion and service, for indeed… In Christ, We Are One!
