It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Dr. Nicholas Peter Skiadas on September 13th, 2024, in Lancaster, PA.
Dr. Nick was born on May 22, 1976, in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was a beloved son to Peter (Pano) Skiadas and Voula (Demestihas) Skiadas, and ever-loving brother to Dr. Anthony Skiadas, married to Kara Skiadas. Above all his greatest joy was being the world’s greatest Uncle and loving God Father (Nouno) to his nieces and nephews Pano, Roula, Elizabeth, and Billy Skiadas. When Nick was born, the family moved to Lancaster, PA where they lived for 10 years, then moved to Kennett Square, PA.
Dr. Nick attended the Unionville Chadds Ford School system, and graduated from Tower Hill Private School in Wilmington, DE.
Nicholas was an avid reader and scholar. He pursued the field of medicine by first starting his college education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He then proceeded to do his medical schooling at Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, PA. His residency was done at Drexel at Hahneman Hospital in Philadelphia. Finally, he pursued his fellowship in cardiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Dr. Nick pursued cardiology because of his love for his paternal grandmother Fotini Skiadas, and his beloved father Peter (Pano) who both suffered from heart disease.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Nick got his first position at Jennersville Regional Hospital in Jennersville, PA, where he practiced for 8 years while living in Kennett Square, PA. He enjoyed his position there immensely, and provided care for many of his family members and friends, since his parents lived in Kennett Square and owned Hank’s Place in Chadds Ford, PA and the Longwood Inn in Kennett Square, PA.
Dr. Nicholas always had a desire to move to a warmer climate and continued his practice of cardiology at Ascension/St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Nick helped thousands of patients by treating their heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, and many other conditions. He was beloved by both patients and colleagues, due to his dedication and genuine compassion for others. To honor his great love for his profession, and his patients, St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, will name a new wing of the cardiology department, the Nicholas P. Skiadas, MD Diagnostic Center.
While he was widely known for his career accomplishments, Nicholas had a great faith in God and attended the Greek Orthodox Church. In Jacksonville he attended St. John the Divine under the leadership of Father Nicholas Louh. While living in Lancaster until his death he attended the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church under Father Hector Firoglanis. To list his professional achievements would require a book, but even while accomplishing astonishing professional ventures, Nick remained generous, loyal, kind, and funny. He was always so proud of his Greek heritage, where he traveled to Greece frequently visiting his father’s village Homori, in the Nafpactos region of Greece.
Dr. Nick will be remembered for his beautiful soul, his passion for helping people, and his compassion. His generous spirit had no limit, reaching beyond just family and friends and touching people he barely knew. He made people feel seen and heard, and he didn’t abandon anybody in need. Due to his unwavering commitment to others, patients from Jacksonville visited him in Pennsylvania at his mother’s home, in his final days.
If asked, his nieces and nephews would say that he is remembered as being joyful and silly. He had so much fun with them playing video games, watching movies, and playing sports. Their Uncle, or “Theio” in Greek, meant the world to Pano, Roula, Elizabeth and Billy. While he will be deeply missed, the love he shared with them will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.
Nick traveled all over the world with his brother Anthony and their “crew” of cousins and friends. Nick was an avid stock trader and enjoyed reaping the benefits of the stock market.
Dr. Nick will be missed deeply, beyond words, by all who knew and loved him. But no one treasured him more than his family. He leaves behind countless wonderful memories of a life truly lived to the very fullest.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing, on Thursday September 19, 2024, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue in Lancaster, PA 17603. Another viewing will take place on Friday September 20th from 9:30 to 11:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am with the Rev. Hector Firoglanis officiating at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 392 Charles Street, Coatesville, PA 19320. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville, PA.
