Opposition PASOK-KINAL president Nikos Androulakis presented five proposals for the safe operation of the railways in Greece in an article for the newspaper “Vima on Sunday”, while criticising the present government.
“When things are going well, they happen at the ‘orders of the prime minister’. When there are responsibilities to be borne, however, he tries to hide behind ‘ignorance’ and insults the intelligence of the Greek people,” Androulakis said.
Among his proposals was a return of the rail operator to state control and finding a new strategic investor, refounding the Regulatory Authority for Railways based on international standards and with the active involvement of the EU, placing the new authority in charge of training and certifying railway staff, an evaluation of Hellenic Railways Organisation staff and the selection of managements through an open, transparent and non-partisan procedure and, lastly, making the necessary investments in the rail network via the recovery fund.
“It is time to decide on the kind of Greece we want to live in,” Androulakis concluded.
