A broad online meeting chaired by the chief of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Lazaros Mavropoulos, with the participation of the General Secretary for Public Order Manos Logothetis, was held on Thursday to discuss the police force’s proposals for a new sports law that will be based on the prime minister’s announcements for tackling sports fan violence.
The meeting included high ranking officers and the heads of all departments that are involved in the policing of football stadiums and events.
The aim of the meeting was for all the senior officers to table proposals for inclusion in the new sports law regarding the role of the police, their jurisdiction and duties, as well as the means they must have to enforce the measures outlined in the new law.
Earlier on Thursday, the leadership of the Hellenic Police had a meeting with Citizen Protection Minister Yiannis Economou on the same issue.
