News agencies that are members of the Association of Balkan News Agencies – Southeastern Europe (ABNA-SE) on Monday signed a declaration pledging to combat fake news.
It was signed at the end of the conference on ‘The role of news information in the new Balkan reality’, which was organised by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), held at the Emilios Riadis Multipurpose Hall at Helexpo in Thessaloniki on the day.
It was thus decided by ABNA-SE members that in their fight against fake news they will intensify their cooperation for providing more complete and objective information.
Battling fake news, it was added, will be pursued against any format these may appear in, be it text, image or video.
In pursuit of this, contact desks within the facilities of each news agency will provide timely and accurate verification to limit the dissemination of fake news, it was noted.
ABNA-SE’s secretariat will next distribute the lists of staff assigned with said task within one month’s time.
