WASHINGTON – Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas wrote to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to request a meeting and to invite him to address the 45 th Congressional Banquet in honor of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I that AHEPA will host on October 24, 2021, in Washington, D.C.
“We are seeking a meeting with Secretary-General Guterres as a follow-up to the series of meetings he held with government officials at the UN General Assembly to discuss the core values shared mutually by the UN and AHEPA that includes human rights,” Kokotas said. “We also are inviting him to deliver an address to our banquet audience on one of the themes of his UN address, ‘Core Values in the Crosshairs.'”
During the 76th UN General Assembly, Secretary-General Guterres met with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. At all three meetings the Cyprus issue was discussed, according to UN statements and readouts.
