NEW YORK – Congressional Hellenic Caucus Co-chair Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today released the following statement condemning Turkish incursions into Greek airspace:
“Turkey’s incursions into Greek airspace are outrageous acts in violation of international law. Unfortunately we’ve seen this behavior before, most recently in Cyprus last fall when Turkey illegally invaded Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone and threatened to enter its airspace.
“It is especially concerning that these most recent actions take place in the midst of the debate on the latest Eurozone-Greece debt deal. These are provocative, destabilizing actions that warrant strong opposition from the United States and Europe. I urge Turkey to cease immediately these illegal incursions or risk further isolating itself from Europe and the West.”
