Constantina S. Papageorgiou, an attorney at Vishnick McGovern Milizio LLP based in Lake Success and a resident of Astoria, New York, has been elected to the board of directors of HANAC (formerly known as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee).

According to Ms. Papageorgiou, “Working with HANAC has been a goal of mine for some time. This is an organization that truly cares about the many challenges faced by the elder generation and immigrant population in our city. As an Elder Law attorney and first generation American, I personally know how important human service programs are for seniors and immigrants who strive for independence and meaningful lives.”

ABOUT CONSTANTINA S. PAPAGEORGIOU
Constantina S. Papageorgiou is an associate in the Trusts and Estates department at Vishnick McGovern Milizio, LLP with experience in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, and elder law. In her estate planning and elder law capacity, Ms. Papageorgiou assists individuals and their families with asset protection and long term care planning with the use of advance directives and various planning techniques. She also provides legal counsel to individuals and families with the administration of estates and the liquidation of assets after one’s death.

An active member of the Queens County Bar Association, Queens County Women’s Bar Association, and the Trust and Estates and Elder Law Sections of the New York State Bar Association, Ms. Papageorgiou also serves as a board member of the Hellenic Lawyers Association, Hellenic Professional Women Inc. and St. Demetrios of Astoria Alumni.

Ms. Papageorgiou received her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s School of Law, where she served as president of the Hellenic Law Student Association, co-president of the Student Hurricane Network, co-president of the International Law Association, secretary of the Disability Rights Association and an active member of the public interest committee. While at St. John’s, Ms. Papageorgiou was a participant of the Elder Law Clinic, Refugee and Immigrant Rights Clinic and summer intern at the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University with a major in Political Science and minor in International Studies. She is licensed to practice law in New York State.

Ms. Papageorgiou frequently conducts educational elder law and estate planning seminars for community organizations in both the Greek and English languages, with the goal of enlightening and motivating individuals to begin estate and tax planning for the protection of themselves and their assets.

Originally founded in 1972 in Astoria, New York as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee, HANAC was initially concerned with addressing the needs of new Greek immigrants living in the community. Today, the organization has become one of New York City’s largest and most successful social service agencies, touching the lives of over 30,000 individuals with a wide range of programs and services for diverse and multi-ethnic communities in four boroughs.
