The Daughter of Penelope Altes Chapter 163 extends a heartfelt Thank You to everyone who came out on Friday, March 8, 2019, for the Humor For Hero event featuring Basile the Comedian’s Dysfunctionally Yours – World Tour.  Over 260 attendees packed St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Hamilton, NJ, Community Center for the 3rd in the trilogy of fundraisers Altes 163 hosted for the AHEPA Service Dog’s for Warrior Program. Over the last year, through the compilation of fundraising events, Altes 163 achieved its goal of raising $15,000 in funds necessary to sponsor and train a dog that will be placed with a Veteran suffering with PTSD.

The full house event was not only bursting with laughter and good parea; but emotions road high as guest Veteran Sgt. Will Rommel and his service dog Rio took the stage and shared his story, and expressed his gratitude to Altes 163 and the AHEPA Family for what they are doing for our Veterans.

Sondi Huber, DOP Altes 163 President said it best when she told the audience that “yes our Daughters did the work, but none of this would be possible if it weren’t for the contributions and support from people like all of you in the room tonight”. President Huber, with parish priest Father James Pavlow alongside her, was overjoyed and honored to hand over a $15,000 check that evening to AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors Program National Chairman George Karatzia. Karatzia, he himself a Veteran, was ecstatic to receive the donation; but also impressed by the time and effort Altes 163 put into presenting a wonderful evening, and the sold-out crowd.

Unselfishly coming together the Sister of Altes 163 in the true spirit of DOP’s gave of their time and talents for a fantastic cause.  But as Altes 163 member Taissy Sloan shared “I joined the group to give back, but I feel I was so blessed to get so much happiness myself from being a part of this group of passionate and inspirational women”.
