National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will accompany Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the NATO Summit Meeting taking place in Washington on Tuesday, July 9 through Thursday, July 11.

At the anniversary Summit, held on the 75th anniversary of the alliance’s foundation, Dendias will attend a dinner on Wednesday night for fellow-defense ministers of NATO member states hosted by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III.

On Thursday, in the context of the Summit, Dendias will jointly sign Letter of Intent (LoI) for a Harmonized Military Mobility Corridor with his counterparts from Bulgaria (Atanas Zaprianov) and Romania (Angel Tîlvăr).

The Greek National Defense Ministry said the corridor follows up on the LoI signed in October 2023 by the defense ministers of the three countries for the extension of NATO’s Pipeline System toward the eastern flank of the Alliance.

By signing the LoI, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania express their interest in the following: harmonizing different national procedures; reducing the time necessary to issue transit passes; guaranteeing the smooth, effective, and unimpeded tranport of military staff among the three countries as well, whenever required; and ensuring a faster response, based on the needs of the three countries.

In addition, the LoI aims at the cooperation of the three countries in the context of NATO’s Joint Logistics Support Group, and further upgrades the infrastructure and logistics support networks in regions like Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki, underlining their significance for the effective deterrence capability of the Alliance’s eastern flank.
