With the current tension in northern Kosovo, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias contacted the head of the Liaison Office of Greece in Pristina and officers of the Greek unit of the UN’s KFOR in order to be briefed on the situation in the region following recent developments, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday.
Diplomatic sources added that in the context of the initiatives he has assumed to deescalate tension – in part by his frequent visits in the Western Balkan region – Dendias is in touch with EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajčák. For this reason, sources pointed out, the Greek FM has appointed Ambassador Sophia Grammata as special representative for the Western Balkans.
Further, they underlined that Greece places priority in establishing peace, security, and stability in the greater Western Balkan region, and it supports the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, while it backs a mutually agreed-upon resolution of outstanding issues that would be final and legally binding.
