The Vincentian Center for Church and Society honored Dr. John G. Siolas of Bayside and Mattituck with the Faculty Mission Award certificate on Friday afternoon, September 21, 2018. The award presentation took place during St. John’s University Founder’s Week at the D’Angelo Center, room 416AB. A green luncheon followed.
“Dr. John G. Siolas completed all the requirements and more for receiving the Faculty Mission Award certificate,” said Fr. Patrick J. Griffin, Executive Director of the Vincentian Center for Church and Society. “Dr. Siolas is receiving the certificate in the presence of his colleagues. His Faculty Mission Orientation Programs (FMO) included: Vincentian Tradition 2012,2017; CST 2014. 2017; Modern Catholic University 2017; Faculty Research Luncheon 2017; Poverty Conference 2013, 2017 and St. Louise De Marillac Lunch and Learn 2017 and 2018.
” I have worked with Dr. Siolas for over 30 years,” said Dr. John Spiridakis, Professor and Coordinator of Graduate level education programs in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Bilingual Education, in the School of Education. “His professionalism is exemplary.”
Dr. John G. Siolas presented his current book at the April 6, 2017, SJU 20th Anniversary. His book, “The Greek American Experience III” is a comprehensive exploration of the Greek language and culture. This analytical book includes the most up to date Hellenic websites and links to major articles and studies on the Greek language and civilization. Also included is information on current scholarship opportunities and a complete listing of Greek American societies and foundations.
