Knowledge, new technologies and the collective effort that promotes extroversion are the three pillars on which we must rely in order to move into a new era in the agri-food sector, Minister of Rural Development and Food Lefteris Avgenakis said on Saturday, speaking at the conference on after the “Farmer of the Year” awards organised in Xanthi by the newspaper Agrenda in collaboration with Tsomokos Communication.
The main goal of the Ministry of Rural Development, Avgenakis underlined, is the upgrading and modernization of the agricultural sector, which will respond to the new situation that is being formed. The aim of the political leadership of the ministry is for the agri-food sector to harmonize with today’s developments and requirements. Innovation will play a key role in this effort. Because, as the minister said, “new technologies offer countless possibilities, which we must take advantage of to deal with the effects of the climate crisis,” he noted.
Avgenakis stressed the importance of “increasing the production and marketing through collective schemes of standardized agricultural products from 18% to 27% by 2027.”
The minister also referred to the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-27, noting that it is the most basic financial tool for strengthening collective schemes and the adoption of new technologies in the agri-food sector.
