The Fire Brigade continue to battle fires in the wider area of Evros on Thursday.
The firefighters are dealing with 81 fires throughout the territory, while in the last twenty-four hours there were 47 new wildfires, most of which, according to sources from the Fire Brigade, were dealt with immediately, in their initial stage.
– In Parnitha, strong forces are operating to put out flare-ups, mainly on the southwest side.
– In Evros, due to flare-ups that took place in the wider area, a message was sent on Wednesday via the emergency number 112 to the residents of Giannouli and Sidiro to evacuate.
– 45 firefighters with 4 teams on foot, 9 vehicles, 5 aircraft and two helicopters operate in Tsikraki, Farsala.
Assistance is provided by the European Civil Protection Mechanism with forces from France (two aircraft operating in Alexandroupoli), Germany (two aircraft operating in Alexandroupoli), Spain (two aircraft operating in Evros), Cyprus (30 firefighters operating in Evros), Romania (52 firefighters with 10 vehicles operating in Kirkis, in Alexandroupoli), Czech Republic (35 firefighters with 6 vehicles operating in Evros), Bulgaria (36 firefighters with 4 vehicles operating in Leptokarya, Evros), Slovakia (39 firefighters with 10 vehicles operating in Evros), as well as through an intergovernmental agreement with Albania (46 firefighters with 5 vehicles operating in Evros) and from Serbia (30 firefighters operating in Komotini).
