The government’s interest in Mount Athos is significant and constant, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Wednesday during his visit to the monastic community of Mount Athos.
Dendias attended a doxology service earlier on Wednesday as well as a reception and extraordinary meeting of the holy community. Later in the day, he will visit the central administration and the monasteries of Pantokrator, Xenofon, Dionyssios, and Dochiarios.
It is the first visit of a foreign minister to Mt Athos since 2011. The Greek government is represented at the community by the Mt Athos governor, who is under the jurisdiction of the foreign minister, the ministry noted.
