Turkey must prove it wishes a sincere and constructive dialogue with Greece, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said in an interview to Vradyni published on Saturday, but unfortunately Greece cannot acquiesce to irrational neo-Ottoman demands.

In the interview, Dendias said Turkey’s current stance bears no relation to the policy of rapprochement with the European Union. On the contrary, with its neo-Ottoman expansionist policy Turkey has created problems with nearly all its neighboring countries, he added.

Additionally, Turkish actions are unacceptable and violate any sense of International Law and common sense, an example being the harassment by Turkey of the Greek Cypriot research ship ‘Nautical Geo’, which was within a delimited Greek Exclusive Economic Zone, 10 nautical miles east of Crete. Turkey claimed the ship was at the Turkish continental shelf, he said. The minister added however that “despite the tension cultivated by Turkey on the field and by rhetoric, Greece believes in keeping communication channels open.”
