“The national climate law is of historic importance as it defines the country’s institutional framework for the gradual reduction of human-generated greenhouse gas emissions, in order to deal with the climate crisis and achieve climate neutrality by 2050,” Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Thursday at the unveiling of the new legislative framework that will serve as a road map for Greece’s green transition in the coming years.
As Skrekas said at the press briefing, “we want Greece to have a key role in the efforts against the climate crisis,” adding that public consultation on the bill will begin immediately,
Replying to an Athens-Macedonian News Agency question, Skrekas said that the package of measures will be costed immediately through a review of the National Plan for Energy and the Climate, adding that the challenges for the implementation of the Climate Law have, on one hand, to do with society’s awareness of the consequences of climate change at a national and European level and, on the other hand, with securing the economic and human resources for the implementation of the ambitious goals.
