Greek airports see record jump in passenger traffic Jan-October 2023, surpassing entire 2022 by 5%

A jump in passenger traffic was registered in October and in the first ten months of 2023, compared to the same periods in 2022 and 2019, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on Monday.

According to CAA data, at all Greek airports (Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’, 24 airports managed by CAA, and 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece), passenger traffic in October 2023 rose by 12.2% compared to 2022 and by 22.9% compared to 2019. Passenger traffic for the month reached 6,943,073 in 2023, 6,189,945 in 2022, and 5,650,541 in 2019.

For the first ten months of the year (January-October 2023), total passenger traffic at all airports (domestic and international arrivals and departures) reached 66.8 million, up 13.6% compared to 2022 (58.8 million) and up 13.2% compared to 2019 (59 million). In addition, passenger traffic for January-October 2023 exceeded by 5% the entire year of 2022, as 66.8 million passengers were registered in the 10 months of 2023 compared to 63.6 million passengers for the 12 months of 2022.

In terms of the number of flights for the ten-month period in 2023, they amounted to 512.278, recording a rise of 1.4% compared to 2022 and of 7% compared to 2019.
