JERSEY CITY — In the spirit of giving, the Hudson County chapter of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association donated $1,000 and goods to a local homeless shelter.

On Tuesday, members of the organization visited St. Lucy’s Shelter in Downtown Jersey City to cut the check and deliver food and clothing for those in need.

AHEPA chose to donate to St. Lucy’s because of the “exemplary work” the shelter does “for those who have the greatest needs.”

“It’s not only consistent with AHEPA’s mission, but the spirit of the holiday season to help those of us who are most in need,” said Andrew Zacahariades, the organization’s national supreme vice president and a Hudson County member.

St. Lucy’s, operated by Catholic Charities, provides emergency shelter, food, and clothing to single men and women.
