Archbishop Hieronymos of Athens and All Greece met with Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Mohammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa on Monday and made an appeal against using the elderly and young children on the front lines of war, as well as for all captives to return to their homes.
Mohammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa spoke about the history of the Orthodox Church of Greece and Archbishop Hieronymos’ efforts to strengthen peace worldwide, emphasizing that “the world definitely needs people like you, people who advocate the ideal ideals.”
He also referred to the historical relations between Islam and Orthodoxy, noting that such visits strengthen their relations and send a message of unity to all parties that advocate any form of hatred or misconception. “We expect a lot from our visit to Greece,” the League’s secretary general added.
In his remarks, the archbishop reflected on the meetings held at the archdiocese when the first riots began. He stressed that discussions with visitors, including mothers of missing persons and academics, focused on key points. “Religious leaders, more than ever, are not merely about preaching, theory, books, and scripture, but about how to translate all of this into daily practice,” he emphasized.
