The Ministry of Education, Religions & Sports issued a call of interest on Thursday to Greek public universities for proposals for joint or dual masters programs with educational institutions abroad.
The action, formally named ‘Internationalisation of educational services of higher education institutions’, is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan ‘Greece 2.0’ and funded by the European Union program NextGenerationEU, the ministry said in a statement.
Interested universities should submit plans that are innovative, not already offered by public universities in Greece, and that provide terms accessible to the general public. No proposal should exceed 15 million euros in budget, and applications of interest must be made between September 2, 2024 to November 29, through the email address [email protected].
“The convergence of Greek public universities with acclaimed international universities constitutes one more step toward the further upgrade of Greece on the international academic map,” the ministry said in the statement. The program, it underlined, will provide training in subjects that until now forced students to leave the country, it will boost the work of Greek university researchers, and it will restrict ‘brain drain’ of researchers who opt to leave Greece for training. Instead, the program “will significantly boost the prospect of acclaimed Greek scientists’ returning to Greece (brain gain),” the ministry said.
It added that the state expenditure for the program will be 62 million euros, of which 50 million will come from the Recovery and Resilience Fund for the period 2022-2025. The contribution of Greece, through its Public Investments Program, is assessed at 12 million euros and will cover the cost of VAT.
