Talking about the government’s policy on health during the daily press briefing on Thursday, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stressed that healthcare was “an absolute priority” for which the government had a specific programme that it was implementing faithfully and quickly.

He noted that a new health ministry bill passed by Parliament on Wednesday will entirely change the process of planning surgeries by creating a single, uniform list, among other measures, as well as the way patients are informed, and help connect hospitals “in order to make the best decisions.”

Marinakis also referred to the new system for the free delivery of high-cost medicines to the homes of patients with chronic ailments, to be launched on January 1, as well as an electronic pharmaceuticals monitoring system to monitor and warn of any shortages.

He noted that Greece is the country with the fewest drug shortages in Europe.

Marinakis announced that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Granada where the Third Summit of the European Political Community is taking place, with the participation of 47 heads of European states and governments.
