Luke Karavan named National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist
Luke Karavan, the grandson of Regina D. Cullen of Shrewsbury, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists are the highest scorers on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. Luke is the only student from his high school in southern New Jersey to be cited as a semi-finalist in 2019.
Luke is a senior at Mainland Regional High School. He is a member of the Mainland Academic Team, Mainland Jazz Prep Band and is a cellist with Atlantic Youth Orchestra. A member of the National Honor Society, Luke has also been recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is an Altar Captain at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Egg Harbor Township and studies the Greek Language in Holy Trinity’s Greek School, directed by George Plamantouras.
Luke has previously been awarded scholarships by Templeton Summer Scholars of Eastern University, Hellenic Hearts, Beneath the Sea, and the 4-H Youth Development program.
