The Hermes Expo is proud to announce that Dr. Dimitrios S. Monos, Ph.D., will be honored with the prestigious Hippocratic Award at the 33rd Hermes Expo, scheduled for June 19th at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Monos, a distinguished scholar and researcher in Pathology and Lab Medicine, earned his B.S. in Biology from the University of Patras, Greece, and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Immunology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. Currently serving as the Evelyn Willing Bromley Professor of Pathology and Lab Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Monos is also the Director of the Immunogenetics Laboratory at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Monos has made significant contributions to understanding autoimmune diseases and immunogenetics. His groundbreaking research has led to identifying structural elements on HLA molecules associated with autoimmune diseases and discovering genomic regions linked to autoimmunity through genome-wide association studies. Dr. Monos’s lab pioneered DNA-based methodologies for HLA typing and introduced Next Generation Sequencing in Immunogenetics.
In addition to publishing over 170 original publications and serving on the editorial boards of prestigious journals, Dr. Monos has been invited to present his work at universities and conferences worldwide. He has received funding from organizations like the NIH, ADA, and JDF and has earned numerous accolades, including the Rose Payne Award from ASHI.
