Officials from three Greek ministries held a conference meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) on its first official visit to Athens.
The conference was attended by representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Citizen Protection, and Shipping & Island Policy.
The aim of ICMPD’s visit was to present the organization’s work on migration, and explore potential cooperation through joint actions and initiatives. Greece joined ICMPD in October 2021, and will assume the rotating presidency in 2024.
ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger also met with Greek Migration & Asylum Minister Dimitris Kairidis and Deputy Minister Sofia Voultepsi, among other ministry officials.
Spindelegger also visited an Enclosed Controlled Facility (KED) for migrants on the island of Samos, where he was briefed on the processing of newly arrived migrants.
