Interview with Kyle Efthemes from ‘Men of The Strip’
By: Markos Papadatos
Kyle Efthemes is one of the eight performers that will be a part of “Men of the Strip,” the male revue that is hosted by Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees. He chatted via telephone with Greek-American journalist Markos Papadatos.
Esteemed choreographer Glenn Douglas Packard is its creative director. Kyle Efthemes’ hometown is Chesapeake, Virginia.
On his “Men of The Strip” experience, Kyle remarked, “I am absolutely ecstatic. I came into this opportunity leaving the Chippendales and to jump right into something like this is huge. I am stoked to be a part of this project and we are all working really hard. We live, breathe and sleep ‘Men of The Strip’ right now.”
Efthemes revealed that he is of Greek descent. “My real last name was Efthemeopulas. The Irish really takes over the Greek part of my skin tone, but I have a pretty Greek nose but that’s about it honestly,” he said with a laugh. “I have tried for a really long time to find out about my heritage, but the most information that I was really able to find out are some recipes for ‘spanakopita,’ ‘baklava’ and ‘pastichio.’ I eat things in moderation. I do things really small and consistently.”
On December 17, Efthemes will perform at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City, as part of “The Men of The Strip,” along with Keith Webb, and several other performers. “I am really looking forward to going to New York, since I have been there in six years. I had an amazing experience when I was there. The show is something else and you have to see it for your own eyes. It is going to blow everybody’s minds. It is going to be an amazing time,” he said.
In addition to being a performer, Efthemes is an avid kick-boxer. “I have been doing kickboxing since I was about 15 years old. My roommate, Nate, who is a part of ‘Men of The Strip’ is studying to be a professional wrestler. Every morning, we get together and I take him through a kickboxing routine and he takes me through a wrestling routine. We combine our knowledge and I think that correlates to the dancing that we are doing and it helps us out tremendously.”
Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I really want to take ‘Men of The Strip’ as far and as high as it can go for as many years as I can. All day and all night I am thinking about this show.”
Efthemes also had nothing but great remarks and compliments for 98 Degrees’ Jeff Timmons. “Jeff is amazing and he has been working with us on something really special that we are going to come out on tour with, so it’s going to be a real treat,” he said. “He’s an amazing guy and a good person to work with.”
