Thanks for reading Hellenic News of America

Nick Katsoris chatted with Markos Papadatos about the upcoming Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund (HTSF) GALA, which will take place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on May 11.

Nick Katsoris is the dinner chairman and HTSF president, as well as the general counsel of the Red Apple Group and the author of the critically-acclaimed “Loukoumi” children’s book series.

This year’s event will honor businessman and philanthropist George Sakellaris, the Chairman and CEO of Ameresco, Inc. and it will also feature a concert that will be headlined by JT Taylor, formerly of Kool and the Gang, who will be performing some of the group’s greatest hits including “Celebration” and “Ladies Night.”

According to Nick Katsoris, he remarked, “We are honored to have George Sakellaris as our honoree this year. He and his wife, Cathy, are such perfect role models for our scholarship recipients to emulate. We also look forward to celebrating our twenty-second anniversary with Kool and the Gang, who will be sure to send the dance floor for a spin and let’s not forget our students. As the HTSF is now in its third decade, the importance of scholarships is that much more relevant as students are striving to be the best they can be amidst staggering tuition bills. We are thankful to the community that continues to support us so that we can continue to try and make a difference in the lives of our scholarship recipients.”

Scholarships are also going to be presented to some of the brightest Greek-American students in the country to honor their academic abilities. Over the past two decades, these scholarships have gone to over 850 students and they have totaled over $2 million.

Past honorees have included television media personalities Ernie Anastos, Alexis Christoforous, Nick Gregory, actor Frank Dicopoulos, Oscar winning actress Olympia Dukakis, Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis, actor Gilles Marini and many others.

General chairs of the event are Margo Catsimatidis, HTSF vice-chair and president of MCV Advertising and Mr. John Catsimatidis, HTSF chairman and the president and CEO of the Red Apple Group, as well as a mayor candidate this year for New York City.

The Castimatidis family is active in such charities as the Police Athletic League, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The National Alzheimer’s Committee, among many others.
