The Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Paraskevi Shrine Church in Greenlawn, Long Island has continued their long tradition of charitable work. This year we sponsored two very successful food drives of perishable and non-perishable food for people in need in our community. Some items included meats, cheeses, eggs, milk along with canned items and even cleaning products. We collected hundreds of items for so many local families. So far this season, food items were disbursed to St. Vincent De Paul Society in East Northport, Helping Hands Rescue Mission in Huntington and individual families in need.
The many generous parishioners of St. Paraskevi along with our friends and neighbors donated all the food. People were able to drive by and drop off their donations without getting out of their cars to respect the COVID protocols.
The food drives sponsored by the Ladies Philoptochos were so successful that we are organizing another so that the local charitable organizations can supplement their shelves for the coming winter. The current need is great and is expected to be even greater as many families continue to struggle with health issues, unemployment and the resulting financial setback.
